Super Bowl 2013

Super Bowl 2013: All the Stars

Kate Upton washing a car in denim cutoff shorts "in slow-motion" in a teaser for Mercedes-Benz is bound to get some eyeballs prior to game day.

But what about the rest of this year's Super Bowl ads?

As always, brands are teaming with celebrities for the biggest game of the year. And at up to $4 million a pop, this year's spots don't come cheap.

Advertisers have already rolled out teaser ads and many have unveiled who will be hawking their respective brands come Sunday. This year, many advertisers are building on what's hot -- right now.

Psy, Korean rapper and one of 2012's biggest break-out stars, will appear in a pistachio commercial. And just three days after the "30 Rock" series finale airs, we'll be seeing Tracy Morgan, one of the show's key stars, in an ad for sports drink MiO Fit. Amy Poehler, meanwhile, is on a lot of people's minds, having just co-hosted the Golden Globes in January. The funny-woman will grace the small screen in a new Super Bowl commercial for Best Buy. And likewise, this year's People's Choice Awards host Kaley Cuoco has linked up with Toyota.

So there will inevitably be a lot of star power this year. But Brian Steinberg, TV editor at Ad Age, thinks celebrity-based commercials are most effective when they maintain an element of surprise.

"Last year when Clint Eastwood showed up out of nowhere that was a really big deal and new," he told CBSNews.com about Eastwood's Chrysler spot. "It's not the person you would expect to see involved in Super Bowl advertising. Most times, it's people who are trending like this year with PSY and the pistachio commercial, or Kim Kardashian doing stuff for Skechers in the past. The best ones are people who surprise or shock with their appearance."

This year, Chrysler hasn't revealed who -- if anyone -- will be featured in its Super Bowl day commercial.

But we do know of a few other celebrities who will be popping in ads on millions of TV screens: Beyonce (Pepsi), Joe Montana (Skechers), Bar Rafaeli (Go Daddy), Usher and Willem Defoe (Mercedes) and Dwayne Johnson, also known as "The Rock" ("Got Milk?").

"You're going to see some celebrities in the Bowl no matter what. It's a natural part of advertising...You get someone who people are talking about for quality -- or a random reality star -- it's going to get some attention," said Steinberg.

And in 2013 -- probably more than ever -- buzz is building thanks to viral teaser ads. Brands have started carefully releasing information and extra footage leading up to Sunday when the game is broadcast live from New Orleans on CBS.
"Teasing is kind of an experiment. It really went into force last year with the car companies," Steinberg said. "Last year, everyone got things out early -- with Matthew Broderick coming back as Ferris Bueller and Jerry Seinfeld doing something for Acura."

But teasers can ruin that coveted surprise. "People talk about your ad ahead of the game but maybe not afterwards," said Steinberg.

And then there are the controversial spots. Almost every year there's bound to be an ad that ruffles a few feathers.

"Right now Volkswagen is getting a lot of push-back for white guys speaking like Jamaican people," said Steinberg of the car company's Super Bowl Sunday spot.

In this case, though, the government in Jamaica has endorsed the ad, as has Jamaican reggae star Jimmy Cliff, who performs a song in the spot.

Some say controversial ads, though, have backfired in the past.

"Companies have done something that's really heavy-fisted or offensive some years and they're paying for it," added Steinberg. "It's best to do something that's a crowd-pleaser and that won't polarize your audience."

Gareth Bale Says

Gareth Bale Says

"Cristiano Ronaldo Is The Best Player In The World

"Obviously Cristiano Ronaldo for me is the best player in the world. He’s got everything as a footballer," says world's most expensive player

Gareth Bale says his new Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world
This comes despite the Welshman taking over the Portuguese star's mantle of world's most expensive player following his £86million move to Real Madrid.
"Obviously Cristiano Ronaldo for me is the best player in the world," Bale told BT Sport.
"He’s got everything as a footballer. And I’m going to be training with him and watching what he does and in games playing with him and learning off the best player."
"For me I can only see one way and that’s for me to improve. I’ve got a great manager, great coaches Zidane, the best of everything at Real Madrid and that’s exactly what I thought when they were interested and to have the best you are going to learn and become a better player.”
The PFA Player of the Year and BT Sport Ambassador also spoke about the expectations that come with being the world's most expensive player.
“I don’t really think about it. It was done between the two clubs. Daniel wanted an unbelievable deal for me to move because he thought I had a high value," he said.
"I understand everything that comes with me to Real Madrid and becoming a massive player, for me I have to take it in my stride and live my dream and play for the biggest and best team in the world.
“I know now I’m going to the next level in my career. It’s another game of football, I need to look at it in the same way as I did before and not get distracted by external pressure.  I don’t read the papers or go on the internet too much, I leant that when I was younger.
"For me now I’ve grown up a bit I just want to firmly concentrate on my life as a person, off the field, and on the field, purely focus on my football and I think for me that’s what I plan to do."
The 24-year-old former Spurs star also said he doesn't think he'll have problems settling into the team.
“You go in, you feel very unsettled, you don’t really know anyone. When I moved to Tottenham I knew absolutely nobody, but going to Madrid I know Luca Modric very well so hopefully he’ll help me settle in, there are a few who speak English like Ronaldo and Arbeloa and Xabi Alonso and the manager and the coach speak English.
"It will be lot easier then when I was younger, I’m a lot more experienced.  I know full well I’ll need to impress everybody and hopefully I do.”

Cristiano Ronaldo Best 2013

Cristiano Ronaldo has informed Manchester United he would like to return to the club one day, probably to end his career, after a summer in which the Premier League champions have explored the possibilities behind the scenes of bringing him back from Real Madrid.
United have been closely monitoring Ronaldo's position for the best part of a year and, while that has not resulted in a hard offer, their clear information is that he is open to the idea of moving back to Manchester, albeit not for at least one more season. The expectation at Old Trafford is that he will shortly commit himself to a new contract that recognises his status as Madrid's outstanding player, despite the impending arrival of Gareth Bale from Spurs for a world-record transfer. However, United are encouraged by the clear messages they have received about his affinity for the club and consider what he says to be genuine. Their information is that, realistically, they think he would be tempted to spend possibly the last three or four years of his professional life in Manchester. They are aware, however, that a move for him will not be simple by any measure.
A more determined attempt to re-sign him is feasible next summer, ahead of a season when he will turn 30, although there is also an acceptance that it is never going to be easy persuading him to leave Madrid, or his club to agree to letting him go. As well as sharing the stage with Lionel Messi as one of the two greatest players in the world, Ronaldo's value to Madrid in a marketing and commercial sense is immense. The Premier League champions are, however, prepared to look into it and, crucially, they are not put off by the vast sums of money that would be involved. They have also retained strong links with the player's agent, Jorge Mendes, despite Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement at the end of last season. Ferguson and Mendes are particularly close and the former United manager had made no secret of his desire to make Ronaldo feel more wanted in Manchester than he is in Madrid.
This drip-drip approach even involved strategically leaving Ronaldo's name to last – ensuring he attracted the biggest cheer – when the stadium announcer went through the two sides before Madrid's Champions League tie at Old Trafford last season. At the time, it was seen as a ploy to distract Ronaldo just before the game started.
It was actually Ferguson's idea and intended to have two purposes, one being to remind their former player of his enduring popularity in Manchester at a time when senior United figures had already started delving into his position at the Bernabéu. Ronaldo's assertion last September that he was "sad" in Madrid had accelerated the process and his relationship with José Mourinho had broken down by the end of last season. That Mourinho is no longer at the Bernabéu clearly works against United, as does the fact Ferguson is not around to add to his influence.
If there is a reservation, it is the underlying sense that Ronaldo enjoys being courted and will relish the knowledge he is wanted back by the club that let him go for £80m. With that in mind, United are keeping an open mind about when it might or might not happen. The key facts are that they will pursue it and have been informed Ronaldo is keen for it to happen.
Yet, to take the most cynical view, it is not lost on them there is a risk of being used as a way for Ronaldo to strengthen his own position in Madrid. United's view is that for a player of this importance they at least have to investigate.
One certainty is that, financially, they would need to push out the boat far more than they have in David Moyes's first summer in the job. United have had a frustrating and complicated transfer window, failing with bids for their top target, Barcelona's Cesc Fábregas, as well as becoming locked in a public disagreement with Everton over their "derisory" offer for Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini.

Soccer and Football News Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi

Lionel Andrés Messi born 24 June 1987) is an Argentine footballer who currently plays for La Liga team Barcelona and the Argentine national team. Considered one of the best football players of his generation and frequently cited as the world's best contemporary player. Messi received several Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year nominations by the age of 21 and won both by the age of 22. His playing style and ability have drawn comparisons to football legend Diego Maradona, who himself declared Messi his "successor".
Messi began playing football at a young age and his potential was quickly identified by Barcelona. He left Rosario-based Newell's Old Boys's youth team in 2000 and moved with his family to Europe, as Barcelona offered treatment for his growth hormone deficiency. Making his debut in the 2004–05 season, he broke the La Liga record for the youngest footballer to play a league game, and also the youngest to score a league goal.
